Character LCD Technology Introduction
When selecting a display module for a new product design, many engineers choose a character LCD Display for ease of integration. Also, this character LCD technology has been in use for many years and has a very low probability of being discontinued.
Character modules display any letter, number and punctuation mark through the use of a built in character table. This table is located on the controller/driver chip attached to each display. The engineer chooses the number of characters they wish to display, the color of the backlight and the operating temperature.
Standard configurations include 8×1,8×2,16×1,16×2, 20×2,20×4 and 40×4. The first number represents the number of characters in each row; the second number represents the number of rows. Unlike multi-color TFT’s, Character LCDs are excellent for direct sunlight.
